Search
Basic Search
Enter one or more words into the search field. The app searches the entire recognized text of all documents in the selected folder. All entered words must appear in the document.
Phrase Search
Enclose multiple words in quotation marks to search for an exact phrase:
"invoice from January"
Supported quotation marks: "...", '...', «...», „..."
Excluding Words
Place a minus sign before a word to exclude documents containing that word:
invoice -cancelled
Finds all documents containing "invoice" that do not contain "cancelled".
Combined Search
Phrases and exclusions can be combined:
"lease agreement 2024" -termination utilities
Finds documents with the exact phrase "lease agreement 2024" and the word "utilities", but without "termination".
Filter Panel
Click the filter icon next to the search results to open a movable filter panel. This allows you to narrow down search results by various criteria:
- File type: Filter by PDF, image, text file etc.
- Finder Tags: Filter by macOS Finder color tags
- File size: Set minimum and maximum file size
- Date range: Narrow results to a specific time period
- Page count: Filter by number of pages in the document
- Folder: Restrict results to specific folders
- Match count: Only show documents with a minimum number of matches
A badge on the filter icon shows the number of active filters. Use the reset button in the panel or right-click the filter icon to reset all filters.
Fuzzy Search
Fuzzy search is active by default and finds matches even with typos, OCR errors or different spellings (e.g. "Mueller" and "Müller").
Automatic Number Search
Search queries containing three or more digits automatically search the number database as well. This reliably finds IBANs, invoice numbers, phone numbers and similar numeric sequences — for example, "WZU112" finds documents containing the text "WZU" and the number "112".
Partial Word Search
The search also finds partial matches. The search term "ship" will also find "shipping" or "shipment".
Search Settings
The following options can be adjusted in the settings under Search (⌘, → Search tab):
- Start search after X characters: Sets how many characters trigger the search (1–5, default: 3)
- Colored search results: Highlights matches in the document preview (color customizable)
- Animate search results: Visual highlighting of matches with optional scaling
- Limit number of search results: Speeds up search by limiting the number of results (25, 100, 250, 500, 1000, or unlimited)
- Checkbox for edited items: Mark search results you have already reviewed, with customizable background color
