User Interface

FreezeText runs as a menu bar app. The icon (text recognition symbol) is located in the macOS menu bar at the top right. The following actions are available from the menu:

  • Capture Text — starts a new capture
  • History — opens the history sidebar
  • Preferences... — opens settings
  • Quick Start — shows the onboarding wizard again
  • Info & Legal — legal notice, terms of use, privacy policy

Capture Overlay

After pressing the hotkey, a fullscreen overlay is displayed on all screens. The background is slightly dimmed. The selection rectangle shows:

  • White border with shadow effect
  • Rounded corners
  • Real-time size indicator (width × height) below the rectangle
  • The selected area is shown clearly, the rest remains dimmed

Text Editor

After capture, a translucent text editor window is shown where you can review and edit the recognized text.

  • Translucent window design with monospace font
  • Text is selected by default for easy copying
  • Auto-save — text is automatically saved when the window is closed or loses focus
  • Recapture — discards the text and starts a new capture
  • Save (⌘S) — copies the text to the clipboard
  • ESC — closes the editor without saving
  • Freely movable and resizable
