Description

Distill analyzes your files with AI and renames them automatically — no more cryptic file names like IMG_4521.jpg or Scan_003.pdf. Pay-per-use, no subscription: Get 100 credits free on first launch; one credit is one name suggestion for one file, even if you do not accept it. After that, 100 additional credits cost €1.99, 400 credits €4.99, or 1,000 credits €8.99 — no monthly fee, no sign-up. Distill Cloud is the default: your credits, no sign-up, powered by OpenAI. In the version from our website you can instead use your own account with Anthropic (Claude), OpenAI or Google — without spending credits — or Ollama on your Mac. The Mac App Store version uses Distill Cloud only. Distill reads PDFs, images (OCR), Office documents, emails, HTML, RTF, and media files. It extracts date, category, description, sender, and amounts — the configurable NameBuilder creates consistent file names according to your rules. The workflow is simple: drag and drop files, review the color-coded diff preview, confirm with one click. For recurring tasks, Distill watches folders in the background: it sends new files for analysis automatically, each costing one credit; renaming can be automatic too if you wish. The file itself never leaves your Mac. The AI service receives an excerpt of the extracted text, the current file name and your naming settings, and for emails also sender, recipient and subject. With Ollama (website version), everything stays on your Mac. The AI can be wrong — check the suggestions in the preview before you confirm. The searchable history with undo function gives you full control. REST API with Swagger UI; the website version also includes an MCP server for integration with Claude and other AI assistants. What is 1 credit and what is it used for?

1 credit = 1 AI-generated filename. Credits are consumed per analyzed file. With your own API key from Anthropic, OpenAI, or Google, no Distill credits are consumed — you pay directly at the AI provider.

Can files be analyzed locally?

Yes, with Ollama all data stays on your Mac — no cloud, no Distill credits, no data transfer to third parties.

Can I undo renames?

Yes, every rename is saved in history and can be instantly undone.
